Sirens blasting, buckets swaying, smiles plastered on volunteers’ faces – the Emergency Services Community Food Drive was an amazing show of generosity for our team of staff and volunteers. They were all on foot collecting donations for the local Food Banks in the Western Bay of Plenty.
Blue Light Tauranga, Te Aranui Youth Trust, and our amazing Emergency Services Staff from: NZ Fire and Emergency, NZ Police, St John Ambulance, and Civil Defence all put boot to footpath. Our teams headed for the Greerton Fire Station on Maleme Street to find out which area we would be covering for 2017; Maungatapu was our destination for the night.
Such GENEROSITY!! From 6pm – 8pm our teams walked the streets of the beautiful Mangatapu community. People opened their pantries and wallets to donate to an amazing cause. By the end of the night our teams had managed to collect enough food to fill two police cars, a police ute, a St Johns Ambulance, and the NZ Fire and Emergency Bio truck! AMAZING!! All of the food from our collection in Maungatapu went to the Tauranga Community Food Bank.
To all those families, individuals, and groups who donated food and money to support this amazing cause – THANK YOU! Because of your amazing generosity, those in need were able to access a service provided due to your kindness.
