This term we have been involved with an amazing program called Tipu Skills for Life. Tipu Skills for Life aims to work intensively through a term-long program to build self-worth and nurture the current strengths of the participants. We are working with a beautiful group of young girls at Merivale School who are aged between 9-11 years old. Tipu Skills for Life offers practical life skills to empower participants to make a lasting positive change in their lives. Tipu Skills for Life has a strong focus on building a future dream for our girls to aspire to. Each week we work towards building each girl’s dream and talking about what steps need to be taken to achieve them. It has been great to see the girls dream big and look forward to creating a bright future for themselves.
During the program, we have covered topics such as self-worth, identifying emotions, and managing anger. Next week we look forward to talking about healthy relationships and what they look and feel like. We see great worth in this program as it is a similar program to our Wāhine Toa program. As this program is for younger girls, we see Tipu Skills for Life as a great opportunity for early intervention.
